Sam's Story - Elmo Jayawardena : The story of every Sri Lankan from a different perspective'Sam's story' was published in 2001, has 173 pages, and is sold for Sri Lankan Rupees 750.
This is written by Captain Elmo Jayawardena an airplane pilot and an award-winning writer of Sri Lanka.
This novel won the 'Gratiaen Prize' in the same year it was published.
I was inspired to read this book by 'Samige Kathawa / Sam's Story (2011)' the Sinhala film based on the same novel.
The novel and the film both have managed to capture the essence of the plot and the story.
Through simple language, innovative writing techniques, and honesty in delivering the plot this marks a great achievement in Sri Lankan English literature.
