About this book

Lamp in a Windless Place is a stunning exploration of the embodied practice of the actor across theatre, performance and film. Drawing on experiences as an educator, artist and scholar, Saumya Liyanage explores Asian performance traditions and phenomenological theories that emphasise fluid interconnections between body and mind. A scintillating argument for the power of embodied knowledge in cultural systems and artistic practice, Liyanage shows how the art of performance is situated. inextricably between presence, creativity, stillness and action.

-Associate Professor Eddie Paterson The University of Melbourne
