About this book

One story on book can awaken a thousand silent heartsWhat Narcissism Really Means?
An exaggerated sense of self-importance, A constant need for admiration, A lack of empathy for others
Often charming on the outside, but manipulative, controlling, and destructive in close relationships
So it’s not just “toxic” — it’s ego-driven hunger that drains others.
I like to use these terms,
Corrupted love/ The empathy-empty person/ Greatness Syndrome or Empty Serenity
"Kuweni" is not just a book — it is a mirror held up to our society. As someone who had the privilege of being mentored by the author, I can say her guidance is one of the reasons I advanced in psychology, at a time when the system and even some lecturers tried to ‘infanticide’ our journey before it began.
Sri Lanka suffers from one of the poorest levels of mental health literacy in the region, very few understand deeper patterns like narcissism — a concept first born in Greek mythology, when Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection. Today, narcissism describes people who crave admiration, lack empathy, and create toxic relationships that drain the very life out of others.
What makes this book powerful is that it avoids heavy psychological jargon. Instead, through simple short stories, anyone — from a school teacher to a farmer — can recognize these behaviors in their own lives. You may even find yourself asking: ‘What if this story ended differently?’ And that is the genius — the book not only teaches but invites reflection.
There is no magical cure for toxic relationships, only awareness. And awareness is where healing begins. For that reason, this book is more than literature — it is public service.
I wish my mentor continued courage to write, to shed light where silence has lived too long. May this be the first of many works that help our society see, understand, and transform."
