Mr. Tetsuya Miyagishi, who was a Japanese language specialist sent by the Japan Foundation, taught Japanese as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya from 1993 to 1996. During the period, he participated in the meetings of reforming the advanced level Japanese syllabus at the National Institute of Education and wrote the Japanese Teachers' Handbook for G.C.E. Advanced Level, 1995 and the Pupils' Book for Japanese G.C.E. (A/L). At present, he teaches teaching methods of Japanese as a foreign language as an associate professor of Yasuda Women's University in Hiroshima, Japan. His major research areas concern comparative studies of Japanese and Sinhala, and teaching Japanese in Sri Lanka. His main academic works are 'A Cognitive Study of Ablative Morphemes in Japanese and Sinhala', in the Journal of Japanese Language Teaching, No.123, 2004 and 'Learning Styles of JFL Students of Advanced Level Schools in Sri Lanka', in the Journal of Yasuda Women's University, No.29, 2001.
Dr. Nobuko Kamura was a Japanese language teacher at the Japanese Language Education Association of Sri Lanka and the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya from 1994 to 1996. She is one of the authors of Pupils' Book for Japanese G.C.E. (A/L), 1996, which was published by the National Institute of Education. Now she teaches Japanese to international and Japanese students at Hiroshima Shudo University and Prefectural University of Hiroshima in Japan. She has been researching on second language acquisition and teaching methods of foreign languages. Her main academic paper is 'The Acquisition of Expressions of Negation in Japanese by Adult Chinese-Speaking Learners', based on oral interviews, in Acquisition of Japanese as a Second Language, Vol.6, 2003.
